Star Wars: The Old Republic is the newest and wildly popular MMO set in the world-famous Star Wars fantasy universe.
Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR) is the newest massively multiplayer online (MMO) game from BioWare and LucasArts set in the world-famous Star Wars fantasy universe.
SWTOR takes place around 300 years after the Star Wars: The Knights of the OId Republic and more than 3,500 years before the Star Wars movies.
When players enter the game world, they will be asked to create a character from different races and backgrounds, from a noble Jedi to the vengeful Sith. Your character choice will dictate your role in a war between two factions: the Old Republic and the Sith Empire.
Both sides are on the brink of all-out war, and tensions have led to skirmishes across a number of planets. In this chaotic scenario, SWTOR players will be asked to complete missions, engage the enemy in melee or gun battle, fly ships halfway across the galaxy, all the while gaining levels and earning SWTOR Credits with each successful task.
Star Wars: The Old Republic
Released in late 2011 at a cost estimated between $150-$200 million, Star Wars: The Old Republic has the distinction of being one of the most expensive and lavishly produced MMO's in history. Featuring enormously expansive worlds, detailed graphics, and fully voiced characters, SWTOR is without a doubt the most polished free-to-Play MMO on the market.
The game's emphasis on story means players can choose from a number of familiar Star Wars species and classes and experience a storyline unique to that class. Players can also purchase special companions using SWTOR Credits, these help carry out crafting, and gathering tasks in the world.
Not content to rest on their laurels, the team at Bioware has continued to improve the SWTOR experience with the release of regular expansion packs that add new story content, zones, and gameplay elements, including 12v12 space-based combat.
