Built by a new team within ZeniMax and Bethesda, the Elder Scrolls Online represents the first time the series has made the jump into the MMO space. In development for over 5 years, it's the most detailed and complete realization of Tamriel gamers have ever seen.
The game takes place 1,000 years before the events depicted in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and revolves around the attempt by the Daedric Prince, Molag Bal to pull Tamriel into the realm of Coldharbour.
The studio behind the game, ZeniMax Online has spared no expense to ensure that the game represents the franchise accurately, going so far as to revamp the camera and UI during development to bring them in line with Skyrim, and hiring an A-list cast of voice actors including John Cleese, Bill Nighy, Kate Beckinsale, Lynda Carter, Alfred Molina, Michael Gambon, Jennifer Hale, Malcolm McDowell, and Peter Stormare.
Combat in the Elder Scrolls Online occurs in real time. Players must quest to earn ESO gold and upgrade equipment, weapons and armor. Leveling will be somewhat familiar to long time MMO players, though points are assigned in a manner similar to other Elder Scrolls games such as Skyrim and Oblivion.
Players will have the choice of deciding which faction they belong to, the proud Aldmeri Dominion, the brave Daggerfall Covenant, or the powerful Ebonheart Pact. Selecting a faction also has a bearing on which race you can choose.
Guilds are also well represented within the game, and players will be able to make a little ESO gold by performing quests for the famous Fighters' and Mages guilds, among others.
